Brazil will be looking to bag their sixth World Cup trophy in South Africa this year after a still unrivalled career on the international stage.

After victories in 1958, 1962 and 1970 Brazil were allowed to keep the Jules Rimet trophy and since then they have gone from strength to strength lifting the cup as recently as 2002 for the fifth time in Japan/South Korea.

Almost to be expected Brazil have coasted through the qualifying stages, only suffering somewhat of an initial goal drought at home. Putting this behind them however the team went on to bag the highest goal difference in their qualifying league.

Under Dunga, himself the captain of the 1994 World Cup winning national squad, Brazil have slowly gone against their past grain. Dunga’s managerial style means there’s less room for individuals in his squad, attacks are meticulously built up and tried again. All out attack is no longer the favoured style.

Particular mention must go to Luis Fabiano who boasts 25 goals in 35 international appearances and looks set to succeed the more self centred strikers Brazil is used to. Pairing him will likely be Robihno, who if able to curtail his domestic petulance, may provide the right partner for Fabiano to link up with.

Backing this up is a wealth of talent too deep to cover fully, we know that Kaka may shine this year and a large part of Brazil’s lethality will likely come through him. We also have Gilberto Silva providing the necessary antithesis to Kaka in midfield whilst Brazil have cover at the back from the likes of stalwart captain Lucio and in form Maicon and Julio Cesar.

Dunga’s not been entirely popular because of his change of national direction, but the results are still coming in and it’s hard to argue with such success and a team so evidently filled with pure talent.
