Boxing promoter Frank Warren is tipping James DeGale as a future world champion as the build-up continues ahead of his British title eliminator with Carl Dilks (which he is 1/6 to win) later this month.
Warren expects the Olympic gold medallist to see off Dilks when the two clash in Birmingham on September 18 as part of the Magnificent 7 bill, and then go onto bigger and better things.
The super middleweight DeGale is coming into the bout unbeaten in his seven fights since turning professional and he has already set his sights on claiming a British title by the end of the year.
He is also predicting that he will overcoming his Liverpudlian opponent inside the six rounds and it would seem that Warren shares his confidence too.
Warren said: “He’s fighting Carl Dilks, it’s an eliminator for the British title, hopefully he’ll come through that and if he does then I expect him to go on and win a British title and the first of many in his quest to go on and win a world title.
“He did brilliantly for Britain winning a gold medal at the Olympic Games, he’s a fantastic talent and I’m expecting big, big things from him.
“He is very exciting and I think he fans are going to enjoy the journey that he’s on towards hopefully winning that world title.”
