Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel underlined his superiority in this year’s championship as well as his 6/4 favouritism for World Drivers’ Championship 2012 with a dominant performance at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix.
The double world champion made a fast getaway from pole position and eased to a comfortable victory – his 11th win of the year – at the new Buddh International Circuit.
“Yes boys, yes we did,” Vettel celebrated on the team radio. “New track, new challenge.”
McLaren’s Jenson Button made a great start himself to pass Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber on the first lap into second place – a position which he held till the end to secure his sixth podium in seven races.
The 2009 champion has three victories to his name as well this season and has been the only one to offer any kind of challenge to runaway champion Vettel – and he is available at 7/1 to reclaim the title next season.
Ferrari’s Alonso finished third in India to maintain third place in the standings, 13 points behind Button, while Mark Webber took fourth place for Red Bull, finishing ahead of the Mercedes pair of Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg.
