Manning hailed by Giants chief

1875667 Manning hailed by Giants chiefEli Manning won all the plaudits after leading the New York Giants to a second playoff success against Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in four seasons to move within one game of another Superbowl appearance (Giants 7/2 Superbowl XLVI Outright).

The G-Men quarterback threw for more than 300 yards for the first time in his post-season career, which included three touchdown passes, two to wide receiver Hakeen Nicks, as the Giants stunned the defending champions 37-20.

It was the first home defeat for the Packers, who lost just once in the regular season, since October 2010 as Aaron Rodgers was upstaged by Manning, who will now take his team to San Francisco to take on the 49ers in the NFC Championship game next Sunday (49ers 4/6, Giants 5/4 Match Betting).

Giants owner John Mara was full of praise for his playmaker and said: “He just is such a smart player, such an accurate passer and so cool under pressure.

“That’s what you need in a quarterback, and he’s given that to us time and time again.

“Like Phil Simms used to say, just win the game. That’s what Eli strives to do. He makes big play after big play, and it’s unbelievable. I never cease to be amazed.”

Manning is bidding to become the first quarterback ever to win five playoff games on the road, having led the Giants to glory four seasons ago the hard way, although he has already tasted defeat at Candlestick Park this season when the 49ers won 27-20 in week 10.
