Giants hoping for 2007 repeat

1875667 300x216 Giants hoping for 2007 repeatNew York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora is hoping for a repeat of the Big Blues’ 2007 Superbowl victory over New England after setting up another finale against the Patriots (Giants 13/10, Patriots 8/13 – Superbowl outright).

The Giants produced one of the biggest upsets in NFL history when they ended New England’s unbeaten streak to claim Superbowl XLII four years ago.

The New Yorkers are now hoping for a similar result after they ousted the San Francisco 49ers 20-17 with an overtime field goal to claim the NFC Championship and reach the final again.

In 2008 the Giants became the first NFC team to win all three off their play-off matches away from home and claim the Superbowl, Big Blue taking a similar route this time around.

After defeating the Atlanta Falcons at home history repeated itself in Green Bay as the Giants (7/2 to beat the Patriots by 1-6 points) defeated the Packers on there way to knocking out San Francisco.

Having seen off the 49ers the Giants have their sights set firmly on claiming another championship, with Umenyiora admitting the current post-seasons similarities with 2007 are uncanny.

“It’s spooky how much this feels like what happened in 2007,” Umenyiora told the New York Post.

“It’s the weirdest thing I think I’ve ever been a part of. I can’t really explain it, so I’m just going to go with it. It’s crazy how similar it is to what happened then.

“Hopefully, we’ll have the same result with that one, too.”

The Patriots reached their fifth Superbowl in ten years with a nervy victory over the Baltimore Ravens at Foxborough, Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff missing a field goal in the dying seconds which would have tied the game.

As it was the Patriots won 23-20 and will now meet the Giants on February 5 in Indianapolis.
