Trio set for Dewhurst battle

The battle for Saturday’s Dubai Dewhurst Stakes looks likely to be between high-class trio Frankel (8/13f in ante post betting), Dream Ahead (3/1) and Saamidd (5/1) after they were all declared for the Newmarket showdown.

With just six runners for the race, the trio are tipped to take it to the wire after all three horses have enjoyed fine seasons.

The field is missing one other quality contender after Ed Dunlop’s Native Khan, who instead will go for the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster, was pulled out.

“I have had a long chat with the owners, and we have decided to opt out of what looks a very strong Dewhurst,” Dunlop said on his website when explaining the decision.

“They say never be afraid of one horse, but it seems that there are three to be wary of in Saturday’s race, and, with the weather forecast for Doncaster next week being favourable, we will sit tight and wait for Town Moor.

“The horse worked very well for Kieren Fallon on Tuesday morning and I am very happy with him, and stepping up to a mile will not be a problem.”

David Simcock’s Dream Ahead has already won two Group Ones and is second favourite behind the much-fancied Frankel in the ante-post market, while Godolphin’s Saamidd’s storming win in the Champagne Stakes recently gives him plenty of credence.
