Murray pleased with “fun” victory

Andy Murray3755334 300x178 Murray pleased with “fun” victoryAndy Murray admitted that every point was “a fun point” in his straight sets third round win over Michael Llodra (Murray 5/1 to win the Australian Open).

The British number one comfortably made it through to the last 16 with a 6-4 6-2 6-0 at the Hisense Arena.

He will now take on Mikhail Kukushkin in the fourth round, the Kazakh ace producing one of the shocks of the tournament to beat 14th seed Gael Monfils in five sets (Kukushkin 500/1 Australian Open outright).

Murray broke Frenchman Llodra in the third game of the match and was made to work hard for the first set. But Llodra faded badly in the second and once his resistance was broken Murray was able to easily see out the game.

The 24-year-old, who is bidding to reach his third successive final at Melbourne, praised his opponent for his contribution to an entertaining encounter.

“Every point seemed to be a fun point,” said Murray. “He was coming up with some unbelievable gets on the volleys and I was managing to dig up a lot at the net.

“[Coach] Ivan Lendl would have preferred a few more bread and butter points, serve and forehand finish, but that was my style of tennis tonight.”
