Jankovic eyes tests to come

Jelena Jankovic put in a strong performance to defeat Kurumi Nara in straight sets in the second round of the French Open and the Serbian (25/1 French Open outright) will next face either Sorana Cirstea or Teliana Pereira.

Jankovic was facing Nara for the third straight Grand Slam having beaten her at the 2013 US Open and 2014 Australian Open.

Nara who was ranked at number 44 in the WTA listings was looking to impress after capturing her first WTA title in Rio de Janiero earlier this year.

Both players held their serves early on, Jankovic broke Nara during a deuce game and held her own game to grab the set. The 29-year-old ended up winning the last eight games of the match and cruised through to victory winning 7-5 6-0.

Despite winning comfortably in the end, Jankovic wasn’t too delighted with her performance.

She said: “My shots were going really, really short, so she took advantage of that, I did not break her until that game at five all. Then I started playing a little more aggressively in the second set and it made a difference.”

“Nara is always tough to play against, we have been playing against each other the last three Grand Slams, so hopefully she can play someone else from now on.”

Jankovic (100/1 Wimbledon outright) has lost both her clay court encounters with Cirstea, whilst she has never faced Pereira.
