Four-time winner and ante-post favourite Justine Henin (6/4 Justine Henin – French Open 2010) warned her French Open rivals she had “brought back the fire” by winning the Stuttgart Grand Prix on Sunday.
The popular Belgian beat world number 10 Sam Stosur 6-4 2-6 6-1 to secure her first title since coming out of retirement in January.
The victory could see the former world number one storm back in the top 20 rankings before the second Major of 2010, the French Open, gets underway in Paris at the end of the month.
Anastasia Myskina stopped the 27-year-old from winning a second title at Roland Garros in 2004 but Henin bounced back to win three in a row – and fourth overall.
Henin, runner-up in Brisbane and the Australian Open in January, said competing at the German indoor clay-court event had “brought back the fire” (9/2 Justine Henin – Wimbledon 2010).
“It’s very emotional to be back here because one year ago at this time I never expected to be back,” she added.
