Djokovic enters Aussie reckoning

80339701 300x227 Djokovic enters Aussie reckoningNovak Djokovic edged a breathless final against Gael Monfils to claim victory at the Paris Masters – then revealed he can only get better (Djokovic 11/2 Men’s Australian Open 2010 outright winner market).

The world number three looked home and hosed when he raced into a first-set lead and took the opening three games of the second.

However, home fancy Monfils showed real guts to level at one set each and pushed his Serbian opponent all the way before Djokovic prevailed 6-2 5-7 7-6 (7-3) for his fifth title of the year.

Djokovic arrived in on the back of his Swiss Indoor final win against another home favourite, Roger Federer, and the 22-year-old admitted he felt in top shape.

“It was incredibly tough,” said the 2008 Australian Open champion (Federer 11/4 favourite Men’s Australian Open 2010 outright prices). “Winning back-to-back titles at this level is a huge achievement for me, and adding to that, beating the world number one and number two.”

He added: “I really feel that I’m in great form right now.

“The support of the crowd was probably one of the crucial things of today’s match in his favour, so that makes my success even bigger.”
