Berdych ready for challenge

Tomas BerdychTomas Berdych (9/2 to win China Open) admits he faces a tough challenge against Novak Djokovic in the China Open final.

Berdych beat Radael Nadal’s conqueror Martin Klizan in straight sets 6-4 6-1 in the semi-finals to set up a Sunday showdown with the world number one.

The Czech star won the China Open in 2011 but believes he faces a bigger test against Djokovic (1/8 to win China Open), who did not play that year because of a back injury.

“Playing against the No. 1 player in the world is always a bit special,” Berdych said. “Novak is playing in incredible form again. He has a great record playing here at the China Open.

“There is a new challenge, a new day, a new opportunity for me. I’m going to try to go there, try to take my chance and, again, try to play my tennis. Let’s see what I can do with that.”

Djokovic (Set betting: 4/9 to win the final 2-0) is targeting his 46th ATP Tour title having booked his place in the final by beating Andy Murray 6-3 6-4.

The Serb believes he is finally recovering his best form and has no desire to end his long-standing unbeaten run, having won 23 matches in a row at the China Open.

“I’m glad that I’m back in the form that I would like to be in, especially in these courts where I still haven’t lost ever since I played this tournament,” Djokovic said. “Hopefully I can finish the year in style, similar as I finished last year.”

The two have met 17 times to date with the world number one losing on just two occasions, however Berdych has never beaten Djokovic on a hard court.
