Woollaston talks up ‘Rocket’ chance

Ben Woollaston admits the prospect of facing Ronnie O’Sullivan in round two of the Snooker World Championship will inspire him in his first-round match against Ali Carter (Carter 2/7, Woollaston 5/2 – Match Prices).

The 25-year-old is set to make his Crucible debut on Monday evening against the two-time finalist after beating Ryan Day in qualifying to book his spot at the Sheffield showpiece.

The Leicester man has not enjoyed the best of seasons to date and failed to qualify for nine of the eleven ranking ranking events, but he fared much better in the minor ranking PTC tournaments.

And he will hope to take that form into his clash with Carter in what will be a big step up in class for the young Englishman.

Carter has enjoyed a steady campaign, with a march to the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters before reaching the last four of the UK Championship.

He then claimed the German Masters and, having reached the Crucible final in both 2008 and 2012, knows his way around the green baize at the prestigious event (Carter 28/1 Tournament Outright).

Woollaston made it clear that he wanted to face O’Sullivan in the first round immediately after securing his spot in the event, and he feels that the chance of squaring off against the four-time champion will be all the motivation he needs to play his best snooker against Carter.

“It is extra inspiration to win,” he said. “It might be the only chance I get to play Ronnie at the Crucible, and that would be amazing.”
