Trump brushes off comments

Judd Trump has laughed off the claims of World Championship quarter-final opponent Shaun Murphy that he has become complacent, insisting he is fully focused on success at the Crucible (Trump 4/9, Murphy 13/8 – match betting).

The duo are set to meet in a mouth-watering last-eight clash this week after both survived the early rounds in Sheffield which have claimed a raft of top seeds this year.

After learning he would play the swashbuckling 23-year-old in the next round, 2005 champion Murphy was asked as to why he thought Trump had made early exits from the Masters and UK Championship recently.

Murphy claimed Trump had begun turning up to matches expecting to win and had become overconfident since capturing the attention of the snooker world with his run to the World Championship final two years ago.

Trump has been quick to quash Murphy’s claims, although he did admit he has found it tough to get himself up for certain tournaments this year (Trump 11/4, Murphy 10/1 – World Championship outright).

He said: “Shaun doesn’t know me, so he wouldn’t know what I do. I just go in with the same attitude to every tournament, and at every one I’m fully prepared to win.

“A couple of times this season it’s been a struggle really to get up for it, but at this World Championship I’m fully prepared and coming in as well as anyone.”

The two World Championship contenders haven’t met since the 2011 China Open, when Trump upset Murphy on his way to the title.

Their only previous meeting at the Crucible came in 2007 when a 17-year-old Trump was defeated 10-6 by Murphy in the first round.

Trump feels his game has changed a lot since his early days on the scene, revealing he is reluctant to take on as many long pots as he use to.

“I don’t think my long potting can go back to what it was,” added Trump.

“Back then it was fearless and I didn’t think about missing. As you grow up you do start to think about missing a little bit, but it’s getting there.”
