Perry upbeat on upset chances

Joe Perry insists that he can cause an upset in round two of the World Championship on Thursday when he faces defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan (Match Betting – 1/2 O’Sullivan, 6/4 Perry).

Perry secured his place in round two of the competition at the Crucible in Sheffield after mounting a memorable comeback to beat Scotland’s Jamie Burnett.

The Brit trailed 6-3 overnight but responded well to turn the match around and claim a 10-7 victory and secure his meeting with ‘The Rocket’.

Although Perry admits it doesn’t get any harder than facing five-time world champion, he insists that he is more than capable of causing a shock and sending O’Sullivan (4/6 2014 World Championship Outright) home early.

Perry said: “I have played Ronnie so many times, including here at the Crucible.

“He is a joy to watch but we all have to believe that we can win, and that if we play our best and cut out the errors and perhaps he isn’t firing on all cylinders, then he remains beatable.”

O’Sullivan, who is on his way to equalling Stephen Hendry’s record of seven World Championship titles, claimed a comfortable 10-4 first round victory over Robin Hull.
