O’Sullivan storms back at Crucible

Ronnie O’Sullivan (4/6f – Outright) has defeated Joe Perry 13-11 to move into the quarter-finals of the World Championship at the Crucible.

Tournament favourite O’Sullivan trailed 9-7 overnight and was largely outplayed by Perry in two sessions but then turned on the style to win the final one.

Perry and O’Sullivan shared the four opening frames before O’Sullivan pulled ahead to lead 12-11 before a break of 113 secured the Essex cueman a last-eight berth.

The 38-year-old will now take on either Shaun Murphy (18/1 – Outright)  or Marco Fu (28/1).

“I just stayed determined right to the end and I was never going to give in”, said O’Sullivan. “It was hard because I was coming from behind all the time and he was playing very well.”

The five-time champion has already won the Masters, Welsh Open, Champion of Champions and Paul Hunter Classic this season but knows just how near he came to crashing out of the tournament.

“That’s the closet I’ve been to going out for a while, the last two tournaments I’ve won here, I don’t think anyone has got that close to me and I’ve felt in control most of the matches, but this time I was never in control and of it any point and was behind from the off,” he added.
