Maguire likes under-dog tag

Stephen Maguire is hoping Ronnie O’Sullivan starts to feel the pressure as the Scot (13/2 to win the Masters) prepares for a semi-final Masters clash with the ‘Rocket’ on Saturday night.

The world number nine advanced to the last four after an impressive victory over Neil Robertson, defeating the Australian in comfortable fashion by six frames to two.

Despite the win, all the talk around Alexandra Palace was about O’Sullivan who demolished Ricky Walden 6-0 in a record time of 58 minutes, scoring 556 points without answer.

Maguire has insisted he is not thinking about all the hype surrounding the ‘Rocket’ and hopes that the pressure is heaped on the five-time world champion.

“If I play well I know I can beat anyone,” he said. “I hope everyone writes and talks about what Ronnie did today and puts the pressure on him. It’s his home town and I’m the under-dog. I’m happy with that.”

Maguire defeated Joe Perry by 6-4 in the opening round of the tournament but is a big outsider to advance to the final, being priced at 11/4 to defeat O’Sullivan.
