Australia are the heavy favourites to win the Four Nations Series but Wigan’s Sam Tomkins insists England can get the better of the Kangaroos at Wembley on Saturday (Four Nations outright – Australia 2/7).
England brushed aside Wales at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium last weekend, while Australia secured a 26-12 win over New Zealand.
Tomkins kept a close eye on the tie between Australia and the Kiwis and the Wigan star believes England could cause an upset and secure victory over the Kangaroos on Saturday.
“Nothing worried us from what we saw,” the full-back told the Warriors’ official website.
“Both teams played well in patches and they both showed some flaws which we’re going to try and exploit next week and the week after.
“They are both quality teams and we’ll respect them, but this is the strongest squad I’ve been involved in and, if we’re going to do it, I think now is the time.”
Tomkins is well aware that Australia are the favourites to seal the win at Wembley but the Wigan ace believes England stand every chance of upsetting the odds on home soil (England 7/1 to win the Four Nations).
He added: “We’ve not beaten them for how many years now? It’s about time we did. We’re a growing sport in this country, we’re getting there, and it would be massive if we won.”
