Shenton eyeing silverware

Michael Shenton Michael Shenton believes Castleford (33/1 – Grand Final outright) can build on their fine first half of the 2014 campaign by going on to win silverware this season.

Despite consecutive Super League defeats to Wigan and St Helens, the Tigers remain fourth in the table and also have the added excitement of a Challenge Cup quarter-final against Widnes in August.

It is all a far cry from the last few years where they have struggled to build any sort of rhythm having not featured in the play-offs since 2002.

Castleford’s (5/2 – Challenge Cup outright) form has been rewarded by Shenton, hooker Daryl Clark and prop Craig Huby being called up for England’s recent training squad and there is a feeling that after years of heartache their hard work is now starting to come to fruition.

The West Yorkshire outfit’s last trophy came in the cup in 1986 but their skipper believes there is no reason why they cannot break their duck over the next few months.

“It’s impressive for Castleford to have three players in the train-on squad. It’s shows where we’re at right now,” Shenton told Sky Sports

“It’s a good place to play at the minute. It’s a good place to train. It’s nice for everyone’s families and stuff like that. It’s a club that’s moving forward, we’ve got some good plans in the pipeline.

“It’s moving forward now and keeping our feet on the floor. We need to expand on what we’ve done going into the back end of the year, maybe get some silverware.”
