Brough back for play-off showdown

Danny BroughHuddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson has confirmed star stand-off Danny Brough is fit to play against Catalans Dragons in their Super League play-off eliminator.

The Scotland international had been a doubt for Friday’s game with the Dragons having sat out the Giants’ last two matches with a serious injury.

Brough suffered a ruptured testicle in Huddersfield’s win over Hull FC towards the end of the regular season and has been forced to watch the games with St Helens and Wigan from the sidelines.

However, Anderson has confirmed Brough will start against Catalans as the Yorkshire side look to bounce back from last week’s 57-4 thrashing at the hands of Wigan.

“Broughy will start on Friday,” said Anderson.

“To be honest, I don’t think he would have made that much difference had he played at Wigan last week, because there was so much wrong with the overall performance.

“That’s something we have obviously been looking to address this week and we have been assessing a lot of options.”

The humbling defeat to reigning champions Wigan last Thursday set up a play-off eliminator with the Dragons at the John Smith’s Stadium, with the Giants favourites to advance.

Defeat for either side will end their season, while the winner will go on to face either St Helens or Wigan in the semi-finals.

The Giants lost at the semi-final stages of the play-offs last year to Warrington and Brough is determined to help guide the club to their first Super League Grand Final.

“We let ourselves and the club down. We’ve another chance to make sure we don’t suffer a disappointing end to the year,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
