Ballin ready for Rhinos

MattBallin 300x237 Ballin ready for RhinosManly Sea Eagles hooker Matt Ballin has revealed he is expecting a ‘fired up’ Leeds Rhinos to take to the field in Friday’s World Club Challenge (Leeds 11/8 draw 18/1 Manly 4/7).

The last time the two sides met in the competition in 2009 a wild brawl broke out, with Manly eventually winning the physical contest 28-20.

Ballin, who joined the Manly squad late in order to witness the birth of his daughter, played in the 2009 encounter and he admits the squad are expecting a fired up Leeds side at Headingley Stadium.

“I think they were a bit annoyed that we beat them last time, there were a few blues and it got quite fiery. I’m sure they’ll be wanting to get one back on us this time around,” he told Manly’s official website.

“They also rested a few players in their loss to Wigan last weekend so they’re definitely fired up and ready to go.”

It will be the fourth time in five years the Rhinos have played the World Club Challenge, which features the winner of the Super League Grand Final an Australia’s NRL.

They finished fifth in the Super League regular season, but saved their best for the play-offs where they defeated Warrington and then St Helens in the Grand Final to lift their fifth Super League title. (Leeds 6/1 Grand Final outright 2012).

However, their 11-4 World Club Challenge win against Melbourne Storm in 2008 was the last time an English side came out on top in the contest.

Manly, meanwhile, are playing in just their third ever Challenge match following their win over Leeds in 2009 and defeat to Wigan back in 1987.
