Youngs looking for improved performance

9456317 300x225 Youngs looking for improved performanceEngland scrum-half Ben Youngs says he and his teammates will need to significantly raise their game if they’re to have any chance of beating Wales on Saturday (England 6/4, draw 20/1, Wales 4/7).

Both teams go into the match at Twickenham with unbeaten records in the Six Nations but while Wales have impressed in their victories over Scotland and Ireland, Stuart Lancaster’s new-look side have struggled to find their rhythm.

Much of this has been attributed to their inability to produce quick ball to their backs, leading many to question the Leicester number nine’s place in the side, especially with Lee Dickson’s impressive performances off the bench.

Their troubles at the breakdown are likely to get worse on Saturday due to the return of captain Sam Warburton to Warren Gatland’s starting XV.

The 23-year-old is widely regarded as the best openside flanker in the Northern Hemisphere and, alongside Dan Lydiate and Toby Faletau, makes-up perhaps the most potent back-row in the competition.

Youngs admits that he and his teammates will need to step their game up when they face the Welsh (6/4 Six Nations outright) and take every opportunity given to them.

“We’ve worked hard on addressing the areas that have needed improving, in particular in attack and the keeping up the tempo throughout the game,” Youngs told Sky Sports.

“They’ve a lot of quality guys who can punish you so we will have to really treasure the ball and use it wisely.”
