Lancaster praises ice-cold Farrell

Owen Farrell 300x198 Lancaster praises ice cold FarrellEngland (5/1 - Six Nations Outright) coach Stuart Lancaster has praised Owen Farrell’s temperament after the youngster showed nerves of steel by kicking 14 points in his side’s 19-15 victory over Italy in Rome.

Many saw the 20-year-old’s selection for the side as a gamble due to his lack of experience but Farrell has been a stand-out player during the tournament and the coach says he can only see him continuing his progress.

Farrell was making only his second appearance for the side in Rome, after his debut against Scotland in the opening match, but has fitted in perfectly and looks a natural on the international stage.

The centre has impressed all season due to his commanding play and cool goal-kicking for Saracens and Lancaster believes his skill with boot will be key when the team face Grand Slam rivals Wales later his month (England 11/1 - Grand Slam).

“He’s got a very, very strong temperament,” said England’s interim coach. “When selection was made initially there was some talk about his inclusion but for me it was never in doubt.

“He’s beginning to fulfil his promise. He knows he’s got a long way to go but it’s been a great start for him.”
