Wales‘ hopes of landing the Triple Crown have been given a huge boost with the news that six key players, including captain Sam Warburton, could return for their clash with England at Twickenham next weekend (Wales 4/6 favourites to win the Triple Crown).
Warburton was forced off during the first half of Wales’ opening game win over Ireland and was a late withdrawal for their 27-13 victory over Scotland last weekend with a dead leg.
Prolific winger George North and Hooker Huw Bennett also added to coach Warren Gatland’s woes when they were both forced off early on at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Ospreys open-side Ryan Jones, who captained the side in Warburton’s absence last Sunday, has been struggling with a dead leg.
The quartet along with Rhys Priestland (calf) and Justin Tipuric (ankle) all sat out an open training session in Cardiff on Wednesday.
However, all six are set to make a return to training next week and could be in contention to return for the Triple Crown clash with Stuart Lancaster’s men on February 25.
“We’ll be looking pretty healthy by the start of next week,” said forwards coach Robin McBryde.
“We’ve got a couple of boys coming back into fitness so we’re looking for the majority, or if not all the squad, to have a clean bill of health by the time we sit down to select a team for the England game.”
The news that Gatland’s men will be at virtually full strength means they remain 6/5 favourites for the Six Nations title outright, with France second favourites at 6/4.
