Townsend ready for Leinster test

Glasgow head coach Gregor Townsend believes his side have improved enough this season to head into Saturday’s RaboDirect Pro12 semi-final against Leinster with the confidence that they can cause an upset (Leinster 1/5, draw 25/1 Glasgow 7/2 Match Betting).

After a few early teething problems, the Warriors’ (15/2 RaboDirect Pro12 Grand Final outright) young team have really gelled this term and approach the clash at the RDS Arena on the back of fantastic wins over Connacht and the Ospreys.

However, they will have to raise their game to even higher levels when they take on the three times Heineken Cup champions Leinster.

The Irish side go into the game on the back of a five straight wins, a run that has not only seen them qualify for the last four of the of the Pro12, but also make it through to the European Challenge Cup final against Stade Francais (Leinster 1/7 RaboDirect Pro12 Grand Final outright).

However, after coming close to winning in Dublin in March, Townsend says his side shouldn’t be afraid of the task that awaits them and believes they have the talent to cause an upset.

“Leinster have set the benchmark in European rugby for the last four seasons and we are under no illusions as to the size of the challenge that awaits us in Dublin,” the former Scotland and Lions fly-half said. “Winning in Galway has created vital momentum for us after our home victory against the Ospreys.

“We narrowly lost to Leinster in March but we were pleased with a number of aspects of our game that night. We’ve improved since then and we’re really looking forward to another opportunity to play at the RDS.”
