Tandy quick to take positives

Steve TandyOspreys (8/1 to win the Rabodirect Pro 12 Grand Final) head coach Steve Tandy insists his side can take plenty from their first pre-season friendly defeat to Worcester.

The Ospreys (7/1 to win the regular season) were eventually beaten 23-6 by Worcester on Friday as they were made to pay for their poor start.

Worcester scored after just ten seconds with winger Sam Smith scoring an interception try. Both sides battled hard at the Liberty Stadium, despite it being a friendly, and Tandy’s side did show plenty of fight as Sam Davies scored two penalties.

Tandy’s men eventually fell away as the game wore on but he was quick to take the positives from the defeat with the new Rabodirect Pro 12 season just weeks away.

He told the South Wales Evening Post: “I thought we were pretty decent in the first half. We created a couple of opportunities which we should have taken after giving away a soft try.

“I thought some of the new boys showed up well. Dan Evans, Josh Matavesi and Sam Parry all had good games, and it’s good for people like Lloyd Peers and Dmitri Arhip to get time on the field after so long out.

“”It’s important that we don’t get over emotional about a defeat in pre-season. We have to analyse it and make sure we learn from the areas we let ourselves down in.

“The next couple of weeks are about building for Treviso and beyond that, not just about winning or losing this game.”
