Ospreys the focus for Jones

Lock Alun Wyn Jones is adamant that he is fully focused on the remainder of Ospreys Pro12 campaign (16/1 outright) as opposed to thinking about Wales‘ summer tour of South Africa.

Jones has spoken out following former Wales flanker Martyn Williams’ suggestion he should sit out the two-Test tour in June in order for him to recharge his batteries.

A busy past 12 months has seen Jones involved in the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia, Wales’ autumn internationals and the Six Nations not to mention playing for his region.

And with another hectic autumn in 2014 leading into next year’s Six Nations and the 2015 World Cup (10/1 Wales outright), Williams feels it would be more beneficial to Jones and Wales if he enjoyed this summer off.

However Jones insists that his sole aim at the moment is preparing for Ospreys visit of Cardiff (Ospreys 1/6, draw 25/1, Cardiff 4/1 Match Betting) on Friday night and looking to help them secure a play-off spot.

“I’ve got rugby to do here [the Ospreys] first,” Jones said on the BBC.

“I’ve got to make sure I’m fit here, that I can do the job here. I’m not looking forward to the summer.

“Hopefully we can get through the play-offs. But like I said at the weekend it’s a dangerous thing, you end up playing a lot of rugby and you go out there potentially tired.

“But then you stop for four weeks, it’s a lot harder to get going.

“We’ll see what happens but ultimately my focus is here for the next few weeks.”

Wales head coach Warren Gatland could be tempted to ignore Williams’ advice and take Jones given that he will be without captain Sam Warburton and full-back Leigh Halfpenny on the tour because of respective shoulder injuries.
