Jones happy with back-row balance

Toby FaletauNewport Gwent Dragons head coach Kingsley Jones believes he is capable of getting the balance right with Wales (5/2 Six Nations 2015 outright) international Taulupe Faletau and Andy Powell in the same back-row next season.

The Welsh outfit are currently preparing to face Connacht in their opening game of the Guinness Pro12 campaign on September 6 and have managed to bring Powell back from rugby league to play the 15-man form of the game for the Dragons.

With Faletau and Powell playing similar games, some have questioned whether both men can work together in the same back-row.

However former Sale Sharks (50/1 Aviva Premiership outright) boss Jones is confident both player’s will have key roles in the side and will be able to play alongside each other in the Pro12 campaign to come (Leinster 7/4f Pro12 Grand Final outright).

He told Wales Online: “There is a lot asked of Toby by Wales and Powell will get his opportunities at eight and play alongside Toby at six or seven.

“I don’t see that being any issue for us. I have been in this situation before when I was at Sale Sharks and we had four or five internationals playing, with some of them in the same position like hooker with England’s Andy Titterrell and Sebastien Bruno (France).”
