May urges Welsh to bounce back

Aviva PemiershipLondon Welsh captain Tom May has admitted his side don’t have time to “feel sorry for themselves” as they prepare to face Bath (9/1 – Aviva Premiership – Regular Season Winner) on Saturday.

May’s team were hammered last Sunday as Exeter Chiefs secured a comfortable 52-0 win at the Kassam Stadium.

The Exiles’ (1000/1 – Aviva Premiership – Regular Season Winner) return to the top flight went horribly wrong despite a number of new signings arriving over the  summer.

Welsh had plenty of chances during the first half but failed to cross the line and eventually the Chiefs took a 17-0 lead into the break. Dave Ewers then crossed over early in the second half and May’s side seemed to collapse.

They will face an in-form Bath side at the weekend after they beat Sale Sharks and May insists Welsh must bounce back at the first opportunity.

He said: “If you feel sorry for yourself you really do get burnt. There’s no time for that.

“We know what’s expected now and we know the level we need to be at. We know that if we’re not at that level we’ll get stung.

“I’m very disappointed and it hurts; if it doesn’t hurt then you’re in the wrong sport. But I’ve still got 100 per cent belief in what we’re doing. I know we can be competitive.

“Against Exeter we didn’t put enough opportunities away; we need to be better.

“We just need to hold that period of time when we’re in control of the ball and putting our attack in to shape, because we did some good stuff out there. We just turned the ball over at the wrong points.”
