May urges Gloucester momentum

Aviva PremiershipGloucester (25/1 – Grand Final Winner) winger Jonny May says his side need to kick on from Saturday’s victory over Sale as they hunt a play-off place this season.

Having lost on the opening weekend away at Northampton, the new-look Cherry and Whites were desperate to get their campaign on home turf off to the perfect start but struggled to get going against the Sharks, going in 17-6 down at the break.

They bounced back in the second half, as five-pointers from May, Rob Cook and a penalty try, plus 16 points from the boot of Greig Laidlaw, gave them a 34-27 win.

Following a busy summer both on and off the field, much is expected of Gloucester (25/1 – Regular Season Winner) this season as they go looking to secure a first play-off appearance since the 2010-11 campaign.

Next weekend sees them host Exeter and England back May has called on his team-mates to use the confidence gained from beating Sale to help them build momentum in the hunt for a top-four finish.

“Losing the first two games of the season would not have been nice but we have another big game this week against Exeter Chiefs,” he told the Gloucester Citizen.

“We need to learn our lessons and realise we have to back it up as well.

“We’ve got a result, we’ve got some points on the board and we can build on that now in a long and tough season. We will grow from this and learn our lessons.”
