Vunipola backs Sarries for double

England’s Billy Vunipola is confident Saracens have “enough gas in their tank” to win the Aviva Premiership (Saracens 8/15 – outright winner) and Heineken Cup (Saracens 13/10 – outright winner) finals this month.

Saracens secured their place in the Aviva Premiership final with a 31-17 victory over Harlequins at Allianz Park on Saturday.

They will face Northampton in the final at Twickenham but must first face Top-14 leaders Toulon in the Heineken Cup final in Cardiff on Saturday.

Toulon are bidding to become the first French club to retain the Heineken Cup and are determined for a victory to give Jonny Wilkinson the perfect send-off after his 17-year senior career.

But back-rower Vunipola is confident Saracens, despite playing in their first Heineken Cup final, can spoil the party.

“I think we have the gas in the tank to handle it. We are fit players, we have great coaches and hopefully we can come up with plans to win both games,” said Vunipola.

“We do not like to talk about ourselves too much, but we have the firepower to do it (win the double). We have the coaches to come up with plans that can turn these two teams over.

“They (Toulon) are a very good team. They have superstars littered throughout their line-up, but they still play as a team.”

Saracens were hugely impressive in the semi-finals in the European competition as they recorded a record-breaking 46-6 victory over Clermont Auvergne.

Rugby director Mark McCall insists he is on top of the preparations for both finals and is calling for his players to be ‘sensible’ in the build-up.

“We have just got to be sensible, and what that preparation involves will be guided by the very expert performance team that we have at the club, who will guide us individually and collectively during the week,” McCall said.
