Gloucester captain Luke Narraway could be set to miss England’s opening Six Nations encounter with Scotland having picked up an injury in training (Scotland 11/8, draw 20/1, England 4/7).
The defending champions head north of the border to take on the Scots at Murrayfield, where England (4/1 Six Nations outright) have not secured a victory since 2004.
And head coach Stuart Lancaster may have some tough selection decisions to make in the back-row, with Narraway added to the injury list with a calf strain.
Northampton Saints flanker Tom Wood has also been ruled out of the trip to Edinburgh, which could give an opportunity to Leicester Tigers’ Thomas Waldrom, who impressed during England Saxons’ 23-17 victory over Ireland Wolfhounds on Saturday.
With the tricky test against the Scots on the horizon, Lancaster is set to cut his squad down from the current 32 on Tuesday, with the interim boss to announce his starting XV to take the field at Murrayfield on Thursday.
Lancaster will also reveal his new skipper for the upcoming campaign, with hooker Dylan Hartley and Chris Robshaw just a couple of the potential candidates for the role.
