Care eyes England statement

danny careDanny Care feels the autumn internationals provide the perfect opportunity for England to “lay a marker down” ahead of next year’s World Cup (England 3/1 – 2015 World Cup outright).

England face the number one-ranked side and 11/8 World Cup favourites New Zealand on November 8, with games against South Africa, Samoa and Australia in each of the following weekends in the QBE Autumn Internationals.

Scrum-half Care, 27, hopes to be involved in all four games next month as he bids to add to his 48 caps and the Harlequins star believes the fixtures represent a great opportunity for England to make a statement before next year’s World Cup.

“The autumn internationals are the last chance for us as a squad to lay a marker down against the big teams,” Care told Quins.co.uk. “Every England supporter will want to see us progress over the coming year and become the best in the world and you can only do that by beating the best teams in the world.”

He added: “Australia are an incredibly tough team to play. On their day, they are one of the best teams in world rugby; they are so skilful.

“With danger men like Izzy [Israel] Falou, who is one of the best players in the world, and Will Genia, who is still one of the best scrum-halfs, they have flair all over the place, not forgetting Quade Cooper and Kurtley Beale.

“You can’t ignore their pack in [Michael] Hooper and [James] Horwill, they have dogs around the pitch who just won’t stop running. It’s always a tremendously tough game, I’m looking forward to the match against them and then the sides meet again in the World Cup.

“South Africa in comparison are probably one of the most physical teams you will come across, from one to 23 they are just beasts; every time you play them it takes a little while to recover. They have strength, they kick well and they are very ruthless in scoring tries, they are a very good team.

“The whole of the autumn campaign will be tough, it always is, but it’s also exciting; four games at Twickenham to begin the World Cup countdown, hopefully I’ll be involved in all four.”

England have been drawn in Pool A for the 2015 World Cup, alongside Australia, Wales, Fiji and the winner of the play-off between Uruguay and Russia.

England are 6/5 to win Pool A with the Wallabies priced at 7/4.
