Boks to unleash secret weapon

Heyneke Meyer 15186497Coach Heyneke Meyer is hoping new fly-half Handre Pollard can inspire South Africa to victory over New Zealand in Saturday’s Rugby Championship clash (New Zealand 1/4, South Africa 3/1 – Match Prices).

Pollard has been brought into the side at the expense of veteran stand-off Morne Steyn, as the Springboks plot a way to beat the mighty All Blacks in their own backyard.

Victory for the visitors in Wellington would see them leapfrog the world champions into top spot in the standings, as they currently sit on nine points following two wins and a narrow loss to Australia last time out.

All three games that the South Africans have played have been decided by just a few points as they kicked off with a 13-6 win over Argentina and then followed it up by beating the same opposition 33-31 away from home.

A 24-23 loss to the Wallabies saw them lose their 100% record and now they face the toughest task in international rugby to try and get back on track.

New Zealand have become virtually unbeatable at home and are strong favourites to win the match and go on and win the whole tournament (New Zealand 1/7 – Tournament Outright).

And, with that in mind, Meyer is prepared to unleash his Pollard to try and pull off a shock triumph in the week four encounter.

“I don’t think you’re going to beat the All Blacks, especially away from home, if you just do the conventional,” he said.

“Before the World Cup I have to expose him. He could be a big force. He’s big and strong, a brilliant defender with a good kicking game, and he’s an unbelievable attacking player.”
