Wigan ace issues Grand Final vow

Joe BurgessWigan Warriors winger Joe Burgess has vowed that the side will be back at Old Trafford in 12 months looking to secure Grand Final (3/1 Grand Final Winner) success after Saturday’s disappointing defeat to rivals St Helens.

Shaun Wane’s side lost out 14-6 having had to battle on for the majority of the game with 12 men following the dismissal of Ben Flower in the second minute of the game for his attack on Saints’ Lance Hohaia.

However winger Burgess felt the Wigan players battled on valiantly and were unfortunate to lose the game as St Helens ended their eight-year wait for Grand Final glory since their 2006 win against Hull FC.

Burgess said: “We stuck in there and we worked for each other. It didn’t feel like we had a man down.

“It looked like they were struggling to cope with us at times, but the mistakes killed us.

“They took their chances well, their tries took some finishing. It happens, doesn’t it?”

Burgess, who celebrates his 20th birthday on Tuesday, will now look ahead to the Four Nations (England 10/1 Tournament Outright) after being included in England coach Steve McNamara’s squad.

However Burgess is adamant that he and the team will use the frustration from Saturday’s defeat to come back and make sure they lift the trophy again next year.

“It’ll stick in my mind and I’ll remember this,” he added.

“I don’t ever want to feel like this again. But we’ll work hard in preseason and we will be back here. I know we will.”
