Maroons waiting on Inglis

Greg InglisQueensland have included injured Greg Inglis in their 22-man squad for the second State of Origin game against New South Wales on Wednesday 18 (Queensland 2/1 to win the State of Origin).

The Maroons have been forced to increase the number of players in their squad due to an injury crisis after the first game last month.

Mal Meninga’s side were beaten 12-8 by the Blues (4/11 to win the series) and his team will need to dig deep to keep the series alive heading into the third and final game.

Meninga has recalled centre Willie Tonga after his three year exodus from the origin squad. Other replacements include Sam Thaiday, Anthony Milford, Ben Hunt, Will Chambers and Jacob Lillyman.

Queensland have been forced to name so many stars due to injuries to Cooper Cronk, Billy Slater, Inglis and Daly Cherry-Evans.

Meninga’s main worry is Inglis after the Rabbitohs star sprained his ankle in last weekend’s win over the New Zealand Warriors.

Hunt may make his debut for Queensland if Cherry-Evans can’t recover from a knee injury, and Meninga is expected to cut his squad in the coming days.

Explaining Meninga’s squad, Queensland Rugby League chairman Peter Betros said: “We normally announce 19 players but tonight because of the uncertainty over several players we’re going to announce 22 players.

“As the week goes on and the injury situation becomes clearer, Mal (Meninga) will finalise the team and get it down to the required number.”
