Powell rocked by Millington injury

Daryl PowellCastleford Tigers (5/2 Challenge Cup outright) boss Daryl Powell has been dealt a blow with the news that Grant Millington could miss the rest of the season.

The forward picked up a knee injury during last Thursday’s 18-18 draw against Hull FC and will definitely miss the club’s Challenge Cup semi-final clash against Widnes Vikings next Sunday.

Millington has been in sensational form for the Tigers (16/1 Super League Grand Final outright) under Powell and he has helped the Yorkshire club into fourth in the Super League table.

If Castleford can go all the way in the play-offs then he could feature in the run up to the Grand Final at Old Trafford, but his injury will see him miss the Challenge Cup final at Wembley in August.

Speaking about the injury Powell told the Pontefract and Castleford Express: “The news is disappointing for both the team and for Grant personally but our medical staff will be working exceptionally hard to get Grant back as soon as possible.”

Millington echoed his coach’s comments and admits he will do everything he can to return as quickly as possible as he tries to help the club pick up silverware this season.

He said: “Obviously I’m really disappointed with the injury. It’s always frustrating to have any time out from playing but to be told I will miss the biggest game of the year so far in the Challenge Cup semi-final was pretty hard to take.

“I’ll be working hard with the medical staff and doing everything that I can over the next few weeks to get back on the playing field as quickly as possible.”
