Powell holding back on selection

Craig Huby 20040651Castleford (2/1 Challenge Cup winners) boss Daryl Powell insists he is waiting on news about the fitness of prop forward Craig Huby before naming his team to take on Leeds Rhinos in the Challenge Cup final on Saturday.

Huby suffered a dislocated elbow in the Tigers’ 28-6 semi-final victory over Widnes Vikings and is trying to get back to full fitness in time to make the trip to Wembley.

Leeds Rhinos (4/11 Challenge Cup winners) coach Brian McDermott played his hand and named his team at the start of the week, something Powell insists he will not be doing.

Huby, 28, has enjoyed a fantastic season with his hometown club and looked certain to miss the trip to London when he suffered the injury eight days ago.

However, it appears that his recovery has gone better than expected and it looks likely he will get the nod to play against the Rhinos.

Powell believes it is not important to announce his squad early and hopes that the element of surprise may work in his favour.

Powell said: “Everybody does things their own way, don’t they?

“It’s not something I would have done. It’s each to their own.

“I’m not that interested to be honest, it’s about how us and how we go about our business. We know Leeds are a top-quality side and whoever they put out there, we just got to turn up and play well.”
