McDermott banking on returns

Bet on Super LeagueLeeds Rhinos boss Brian McDermott believes he will see some of the club’s most experience players return ahead of the club’s Super League clash against Hull KR on Friday (5/2 Leeds Rhinos – Super League Grand Final outright).

The Rhinos, who suffered a 16-14 derby defeat to Wakefield Wildcats last Friday, have been struggling with inconsistent form over recent weeks but remain in second place in the Super League table behind St Helens (10/3 Super League Grand Final outright).

Leeds are looking to bounce back from that loss to the Wildcats when they host the Robins at Headingley and they could see the return of hooker Rob Burrow and skipper Kevin Sinfield.

Captain Sinfield was tipped to play in the encounter with Wakefield but his back injury forced him to watch from the sidelines, while Burrow has been out for much of the campaign with a broken collarbone.

However the duo, along with forwards Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Kylie Leuluai, are looking set to feature against Hull KR on Friday, according to McDermott.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “We have a chance of getting Rob Burrow back this week.

“Also Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Kylie Leuluai (both calf injuries). Zak Hardaker’s available (after suspension) the week after.

“Kevin Sinfield (back) and Chris Clarkson (Achilles) have a chance for Friday, but Carl Ablett (shoulder) is probably going to be two more weeks.”
