Mallinder keen to move on

Northampton Saints (13/8 – Aviva Premiership Grand Final outright) boss Jim Mallinder has urged his side to move on from their LV=Cup final defeat to Exeter Chiefs with plenty of silverware still up for grabs.

Saints were on for a treble this season but failed to land their first trophy of the campaign following a 15-8 defeat to the Chiefs at Sandy Park on Sunday.

With Northampton at the top of the Aviva Premiership table and still challenging in the Amlin Challenge Cup, a double for the East Midlands outfit is still on the cards this season.

Mallinder was disappointed not to come away from the home of the Chiefs with the win but feels the competition has been good for his squad, especially the younger plays.

He said: “We were disappointed to lose but the LV= Cup is a good tournament for us and throughout the campaign as we have blooded lots of young players.

“We still have plenty to play for and the Premiership is always important so we need to make sure that we keep cracking on, winning some games and try to get a home semi-final because that is very important.”

Northampton (13/8 – Amlin Challenge Cup outright) will be looking to maintain their position at the top of the Premiership table in their next outing when they take on Sale Sharks on March 22.
