Wales fly-half Stephen Jones has been handed an international lifeline by coach Warren Gatland ahead of his side’s Six Nations campaign (Wales 5/2 – Six Nations Outright).
The 34-year-old was originally left out of the squad that has travelled to Poland for a training camp, but concerns over Rhys Priestland’s knee injury plus the fact James Hook will play for Perpignan this weekend has forced a rethink.
Priestland is thought to be struggling for Wales’ opening Six Nations match which is against Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Sunday, February 5 (Ireland 1/2, draw 20/1, Wales 13/8 – Match Betting).
And the fact Hook could face Brive on Saturday means Gatland has decided to give himself as many options as possible as the Kiwi looks to build on an impressive showing at last year’s World Cup.
Jones has won 104 caps for his country since making his international debut against South Africa back in 1998.
Gatland is already without prop Gethin Jenkins and locks Alun Wyn Jones and Luke Charteris for the Ireland game through injury while flanker Dan Lydiate and Jamie Roberts are doubts.
