London Irish full-back Delon Armitage has warned fellow No.15 Ben Foden is ready battle for his place in the England (10/1 – World Cup 2011 Outright) side ahead of the World Cup in New Zealand.
Armitage started in the pre-tournament friendly against Wales on Saturday and England won the clash at Twickenham 23-19.
The 27-year-old impressed in the game, with one superb run from his own half catching the eye against the Welsh.
Armitage has endured a difficult spell in the game after injuries and off-the-field incidents hindered his development with the England (4/11 – World Cup Pool B Outright) squad after he made his debut against the Pacific Islanders back in 2008.
During his time in exile, Northampton Saints star Foden has claimed the full-back shirt as his own with some impressive performances in the autumn internationals last year and the 2011 Six Nations.
However, Armitage is keen to win back his place ahead of the World Cup next month.
He said: “I felt like I missed a lifetime of rugby, but I am back now and ready to go.
“I have got that hunger again. I really want to be involved for England. I am pushing Ben. I want that shirt back and he knows it.”
