Delon Armitage is one of three players to have been released from the England squad for Saturday’s final Six Nations game against France (1/5 Grand Slam Winner) in Paris.
Coach Martin Johnson appears to have lost patience with the out-of-form London Irish full-back following his display in the 15-15 draw in Scotland on Saturday and it now looks like Ben Foden will be handed his first Test start against the French.
Armitage is joined out of the squad by Ugo Monye after he was stretchered off against the Scots with a neck injury, and Courtney Lawes, who came off the bench at Murrayfield to win his second cap.
Monye’s absence could mean a debut for impressive Northampton (25/1 Heineken Cup Outright) winger Chris Ashton, the experienced Simon Shaw will come in for Lawes, while Johnson has revealed that captain Steve Borthwick will have his knee injury assessed on Wednesday.
He said: “Steve has gone for treatment for a long-term wear-and-tear issue.
“Hopefully it is just precautionary and he will be fine. Lots of guys carry things because they play a lot of rugby.”
