Rooney to get stuck in

Wayne Rooney says he will keep training hard with Manchester United until his form returns and believes he just needs one goal to kick-start his season (Rooney 10/1 to be top Premier League goalscorer).

The 24-year-old has been out-of-sorts so far this term and has scored just one goal to date – a penalty against West Ham United back in early September.

There appears to be conflicting reports as to whether or not he has been suffering with an ankle injury this season, as United boss Sir Alex Ferguson left him out of the Red Devils’ side to face Valencia and Sunderland, stating that the England international would need two to three weeks to recover from his problem.

However, the former Everton striker has now denied that he has had any trouble with that part of his body, prompting speculation that he was left out of the two matches due to a lack of form.

Rooney should return to the United side for this Saturday’s home clash with West Brom and he feels there is no magic formula to cure his current plight, other than just knuckling down and netting that all-important first goal (United 1/4 to beat West Brom).

“When you are going through the run I am now, you just have to keep working hard,” he said. “I know I’ve been through this before and once one goal goes in, I am sure I will get more but it’s just getting that goal.

“If you don’t score, and you have chances, you are disappointed. I want to score but I have got a lot of games left in the season. I am sure this run without scoring will end soon.”
