Liverpool have snapped up free-agent Joe Cole on a four-year-deal after the England international decided to leave Chelsea (Liverpool 16/1 to win the Premier League).
The midfielder had grown frustrated by a lack of opportunities under boss Carlo Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge and decided to move on when his contract came to an end at the beginning of the month.
The 28-year-old becomes new Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson’s first signing since taking over at Anfield and represents a major coup for the former Fulham manager. Cole had offers from other Premier League clubs, including those who could offer Champions League football, but the England international has decided to continue his career with Liverpool, who will compete in next season’s Europa League after missing out on a place in the top four last season (Liverpool 10/1 to win the Europa League).
Liverpool confirmed Cole had agreed terms with a statement on the club’s official website, which read: “Liverpool FC are delighted to confirm the signing of Joe Cole on a four-year deal.
“The England midfielder has agreed personal terms with the Reds and will undergo a medical in the next 48 hours.”
