Redknapp happy with Spurs options

8663167 300x199 Redknapp happy with Spurs optionsHarry Redknapp claims he would not go out and sign a new goalkeeper on loan even if it looked like injury to Heurelho Gomes could force him out of their top four battle (Spurs 4/5 for top four finish).

The Spurs number one was seen limping in pain with an apparent groin problem at the end of his side’s 1-0 win over Bolton.

That victory, coupled with their rivals Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa, means Spurs still hold a one-point advantage for the final Champions League qualification spot before the two teams meet at Eastlands this week.

While City (EVS for top four finish) moved last week to bring in Marton Fulop on an emergency loan deal after an injury to their number one Shay Given, Redknapp has said he would not apply for a similar deal even if Gomes was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Even without the 29-year-old, the Spurs boss would call on either Ben Alnwick or Jimmy Walker to fill the keeping slot.

“Gomes’ groin is sore. He’ll have a scan and see what the damage is. Hopefully he’ll be okay,” said Redknapp.

“If he isn’t fit, Ben would play and Jimmy would be on the bench.”

It is also mathematically possible for Liverpool (100/1 for top four finish) to scrape into the Premier League top four, but they face a tough game against leaders Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
