Andy Murray (7/4 with Betfred to win a 2010 Grand Slam event) has fallen to fourth in the world rankings after recent disappointments, as the world’s top players begin the 2010 clay-court campaign.
The British number one lost in straights sets to Mardy Fish in the Miami Masters second round last week, following on from a quarter-final defeat to Robin Soderling in Indian Wells.
With the French Open seven weeks away, the players now begin their clay-court stint with Murray due back in action as a wildcard at next week’s Monte Carlo Masters.
The 22-year-old intends to play two more clay tournaments – the Rome Masters which starts on April 25 and the Madrid Open from May 9 – before his Roland Garros campaign.
French Open favourite Rafael Nadal (4/5) has leaped above Murray to third in the rankings, with the Spaniard eyeing more success over the coming weeks on his favourite surface.
