Vettel taking nothing for granted

Sebastian Vettel (4/5 – US Grand Prix outright) has played down his performance during practice at the United States Grand Prix on Friday and says he is expecting a number of surprises at the Circuit of the Americas.

After a shaky opening few months to the campaign, the German has dominated since the summer break, winning four of the seven races and missing out on the podium just once.

Vettel (1/5 –¬†drivers’ title outright) is undoubtedly the form driver in the competition and knows if he wins this week and finishes 15 points clear of former leader Fernando Alonso, he will claim his third consecutive world title.

The 25-year-old is understandably confident following his performance in practice, but knows he can take nothing for granted going into Saturday’s qualifying session.

“On a Friday you need to be careful, also the fact that it’s very slippery can make a big difference, a bigger difference than you think,” he said.

“I think there were more than one or two surprises in terms of pace and people, so we’ll see what happens as the track will constantly improve, and we’ll go from there.”
