Massa to retain Ferrari seat

Having finished in second place in the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday, Felipe Massa looks set to keep his seat at Ferrari (33/1 world constructors championship outright) following months of speculation surrounding the Brazilian’s future.

The South American has endured a frustrating spell on the Formula One circuit and his podium finish in Suzuka this weekend was his first since the Korean Grand Prix in 2010.

Massa (33/1 Korean GP outright)  has been showing signs of improvement and his second-place finish behind Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, is an indication of how the 31-year-old is returning to his best form.

Much was resting on Massa’s performance in Japan and the experienced driver was delighted with his race, which could see him pen a new deal with Ferrari before the next meeting in Korea.

He said: “Two years without going to the podium is really not nice. Thinking so many bad things, so many things which are negative and don’t help anything.

“It’s really a relief and I’m sure it will be so important for me, for my brain and for my future as well. So happy for the great race I did.”
