Massa handed Ferrari warning

Ferrari’s team principal, Stefano Domenicali, has warned driver Felipe Massa he expects a much improved performance from him at the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix (100/1 Race Winner) on May 27.

The Brazilian driver, who has won 11 Grands Prix so far in his career including two of the opening five races in both 2007 and 2008, has endured a poor start to the 2012 Formula One season with just two points from the opening five races.

And, with team-mate Fernando Alonso (9/2 Formula 1 – World Drivers’ Championship 2012) collecting 61 points in the same races, the pressure is now starting to mount on Massa to boost the Italian team’s tally (Ferrari 33/1 Constructors’ Championship) in the upcoming races, starting in Monte Carlo next weekend.

“As for an analysis of the Scuderia’s performance and its two drivers, Fernando (Alonso) has always maintained a very high level while Felipe’s drop off has made itself felt,” Domenicali said on the Ferrari team website.

“The Brazilian had picked up 49 points two years ago and 24 the following year, while so far this season he has just two. In Montmelo, Felipe was very unlucky, both in the race and in qualifying, but everyone – he more than anyone – is expecting a change of gear starting right away with the Monaco Grand Prix, his second home race.”
