Lewis Hamilton (1/5 – 2014 World Championship outright) insists he is not worried by the award of double points in Abu Dhabi as he is currently enjoying the best form of his career.
Hamilton won for the fourth race running in Sunday’s Russian Grand Prix to open up a 17-point lead over Nico Rosberg (7/2 – 2014 World Championship outright) at the top of the drivers’ standings.
The Mercedes driver holds a commanding position going into the final three races of the season but the title fight could be decided in the final grand prix in Abu Dhabi when 50 points will go to the winner.
If – as has been the case in the last two races – Hamilton wins the next two races and Rosberg finishes second, his team-mate will still have a chance of snatching the title.
But Hamilton has faith in his car and believes his recent form gives him nothing to worry about for the season’s finale.
“That (double points) highlights the decision that was taken for the last race, and whatever will be, will be,” said Hamilton.
“For me, it’s important not to put any negative energy or concern out there, and there’s no need to be concerned because I’ve the utmost belief in this team and the car, and I’m in the best form of my life.
“Although you never know what lies ahead, you deal with it as it comes. There’s no point thinking what if this happens or that happens, or what happens if he wins. There’s no point thinking those things.
“I honestly think that’s the wrong way to look at it. It’s like looking at a glass that’s either half empty or half full. That’s just the wrong approach.
“Right now I’ve all the opportunities ahead of me, and I’ve just got to try and grab those. We’ve just got to do our due diligence and work as hard as we can to make sure we don’t have any problems.
“It’s about doing everything we can, maximising everything, and I plan to do that for these next three races, making sure I’m stronger than ever because I want to win.”
The Formula One season resumes in the USA on November 2. Hamilton is a double winner on the Circuit of Americas and is the red-hot favourite at 8/13 to take his tally to three next month.
